Here is a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service in Paducah KY for Franklin and surrounding counties :

…FIRST ACCUMULATING SNOW OF THE SEASON POSSIBLE THURSDAY…

With Arctic air already in place across the region, an upper-level storm system will produce a swath of light snow, as it swings through our region Thursday.

The initial band of light snow may reach the Interstate 64 corridor of southern Illinois just prior to daybreak Thursday, but the bulk of the accumulating snowfall is expected in the morning hours. 1 to 2 inches of snow is possible across the Interstate 64 corridor of southern Illinois and southwest Indiana.

The snow is expected to taper off quickly from west to east Thursday afternoon. Farther south across the region, a half inch or less is expected, and much of the area may only see a few periods of flurries.

At this time, considerable uncertainty exists with this storm system. On the high end, the potential exists for light accumulations across the entire area, with narrow bands of enhanced snowfall. On the low end, a very minor adjustment could result in nothing but flurries across the area.

With the cold air in place, any accumulations would likely create travel difficulties. Please stay tuned for the latest forecasts and statements on this potential winter storm system from the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky.

Follow franklincounty-news.com for advisory updates and possible cancellations throughout this possible winter weather event.

GOP drops plan to overhaul ethics rules after Trump trashes it

AP Photo

Republicans’ first hardball move of the new Congress fizzled Tuesday as lawmakers were forced to drop their attempt to weaken the House’s independent ethics watchdog, bowing to widespread criticism including from President-elect Donald Trump, who told them they had more important things to work on. Within a span of 15 hours, the House GOP held a secret vote to bring the Office of Congressional Ethics under control of the lawmakers themselves, then reversed that just minutes before the chamber convened. Democrats complained that the rules adopted Tuesday were still unfair, even with GOP concession on ethics, because lawmakers will be punished for live-streaming from the floor — a long-standing violation, but one that will now earn members a fine. The GOP powered the new rules through on a 234-193 vote. Please click on the link to read the rest of the Story from the Washington Times

Ford cancels plan to build new Mexican plant, adds U.S. jobs

ford-truckFLAT ROCK, Mich. — Ford is canceling plans to build a new $1.6 billion factory in Mexico and will invest $700 million in a Michigan plant to build new electric and autonomous vehicles. Ford, however, still plans to shift production of the Focus small car to Mexico and will make the car at an existing plant. President-elect Donald Trump has been pressuring Ford to keep production of the Focus in the U.S. The company made the announcements Tuesday at a factory in Flat Rock, Michigan, near Detroit. The factory will get 700 new jobs. Among the new vehicles it will make are a fully electric small SUV with 300 miles of range. Ford also plans a gas-electric hybrid version of the F-150 pickup. have a “significant” public works plan, but she has questions about some of Trump’s Cabinet nominees. In a conference call with reporters, Duckworth said she looks forward to “rolling up my sleeves and getting to work,” and she hopes the incoming Republican administration will forward a plan for “significant infrastructure development.” Illinois, she said, needs such a plan for projects from lock-and-dam improvements on the Mississippi River to work on public school buildings to “getting lead out of our water supply.” Lead has been a problem in some cities, including Chicago and Galesburg. She said other issues important to her include small business, manufacturing and agriculture. “Of course, I will always be focused on supporting our veterans and our military men and women and their families,” said Duckworth, of Hoffman Estates, who lost both legs when her helicopter was shot down in Iraq and who later led the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. Megyn Kelly Is Leaving Fox News for NBC

New York Times Photo

New York Times Photo

Megyn Kelly, who arrived at Fox News 12 years ago as a television news neophyte but rose to become one of its two biggest stars, has decided to leave the network to take on a broad new role at NBC News for an undisclosed salary, NBC announced Tuesday afternoon. The NBC News chairman, Andrew Lack, wooed Ms. Kelly away from Fox News by offering her a triple role in which she will host her own daytime news and discussion program, anchor an in-depth Sunday night news show and take regular part in the network’s special political programming and other big-event coverage. The move will herald a seismic shift in the cable news landscape, where Ms. Kelly had become the second-most watched host — after Bill O’Reilly of Fox News — and often helped define the national political debate, especially over the last year as Donald J. Trump regularly attacked her, at times in viciously personal terms…..Please click to read the rest of the story from the New York Times

by Steve Dunford

THOMPSONVILLE-  Twice over the last few days, the clothing room of the Thompsonville First Baptist Church has been vandalized, broken into, and thefts have occurred.

The clothing room is located just west of the village limits on State Hwy. 149.  The church has a baseball/softball field there, as well as  a pavilion.  There have been several instances of vandalism over the last several months on the property.

Yesterday, the forced entry happened during broad day light.  Here is the vehicle in suspicion, from the surveillance cameras yesterday.

EDITORIAL NOTE:   This is a ministry that is trying to express Christ’s love to people by giving them FREE clothing and items.  It perplexes me why someone would want to steal them.  I just have a tough time understanding the mindset of individuals who would take items when all they have to do is ask.  According to ministry coordinator, Natalie Dixon, “They leave a lot of work afterwards from the mess they leave behind.”

Click on the link to read the full text of them…I am going to give you the “Cliff Notes”…..Illinois is believed to be the first state to require hairstylists to undergo training to help them spot signs of domestic or sexual abuse…..Another law says employees allowed sick leave for injuries or doctor appointments can take leave for the illness or appointment of a family member…..The state will also extend the statute

This law was inspired by the case of Molly Young of Carbondale, which is very familiar to most of us in Southern Illinois

The age was previously 13………….Illinois will eliminate the so-called “tampon

The "tampon law" goes into effect where the tax has been eliminated on feminine hygiene products. I feel it ought to be eliminated on all health and beauty aids.

One allows drug court participants to use medication, like methadone, for treatment. Another requires state-licensed treatment programs to provide education information about medication-based treatments and the use of anti-overdose drugs………..The new state artifact will be a long canoe once used by Native Americans, including the Illini. Click on link to read the story from DAVID MARTOSKO, US POLITICAL EDITOR FOR DAILYMAIL.COM… Donald Trump used his Twitter bully pulpit on Monday to blast Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for allowing his city’s murder and firearms shooting rates to spiral out of control. ‘Chicago murder rate is record setting – 4,331 shooting victims with 762 murders in 2016,’ Trump tweeted. ‘If Mayor can’t do it he must ask for Federal help!’ 2016 was one of the most violent years in Chicago history with the most homicides in two decades – more than New York and Los Angeles combined. The nation’s third largest city also saw 1,100 more shooting incidents last year than it did in 2015, according to data released Sunday by the Chicago Police Department.
