Here is an excerpt) As Illinois’ budget war continues, some state lawmakers want people to be ready for a different kind of battle — against zombies. The state House approved a measure Thursday that would dub October of this year as “Zombie Preparedness Month.” Despite the name, lawmakers aren’t actually gearing up for a real zombie apocalypse. The measure instead encourages people to learn more about natural disasters and ensure they have emergency supplies that could last up to 72 hours.

Man crashes car into Rend Lake

Here is an excerpt. ) Illinois State Police say a man had a medical emergency before driving his car into Rend Lake. It happened at around 11:47 a.m. at mile marker 79 near Rend Lake. Police say Thomas C. McDonald, 70, of Herrin, was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus northbound on I-57 when he had a sudden medical episode. McDonald veered off the road and into Rend Lake. Two nearby boaters pulled McDonald out of the submerged car and brought him to shore. )
State Legislature considers making Illinois a sanctuary state
SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chicago Tribune staff report- Please click for a full story. Here is an excerpt.) Illinois legislators are proposing to boost immigrant protections statewide in response to President Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration, a move advocates say would essentially give the state “sanctuary” status. One proposal says schools, medical facilities and places of worship don’t have to give access to federal immigration authorities or local law enforcement working on their behalf. Another proposal would limit cooperation and communication between local police and immigration authorities.

Below are the following arrests made by the Benton Police Department:
- On February 3rd, 2017 Benton Police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Joplin and McLeansboro Street. Through investigation, police arrested Branden C. Eubanks, age 31, of Benton for driving while license suspended. Eubanks was transported to the Franklin County Jail.
- On February 4th, 2017 Benton Police conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of North McLeansboro Street.Through investigation, police arrested Nissa M. Upton, age 29, of
Benton for driving while license suspended.Upton was transported to the Franklin County Jail.
- On February 5th, 2017 Benton Police were dispatched to Franklin Hospital in reference to a domestic dispute. Through further investigation, police arrested Brandon E. Rodriguez, age 29, of Ellenboro NC, the suspect of a domestic disturbance that occurred in the 800 block of N. Eighth for aggravated domestic battery. Rodriguez was charged and transported to the Franklin County Jail for further processing.
Rounds of severe weather possible for tomorrow and Tuesday
Good Morning. It is going to be a great Super Bowl Sunday with highs in the 50’s.
Things will start changing tomorrow. Highs will be in the lower sixties with a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
With near steady temperatures overnight the first round of probable severe weather will come during those hours, and into Tuesday morning.
The next wave of Severe weather will be in the afternoon and evening hours of Tuesday.
Both days, the Storm Prediction Center has Franklin County and the rest of Southern Illinois in a slight risk for severe weather. The main threat is large hail and damaging thunderstorm winds. At this time the tornado threat is minimal.

has the TORCON index of 2 across Southern Illinois for Monday and Tuesday, showing the Tornado threat for the region is minimal at this time.
Behind this weather system, it is supposed to be cooler with highs in the upper 30’s for Wednesday and Thursday, warming to the 50’s by the weekend.
