BOST JOINS HOUSING SECRETARY BEN CARSON IN CAIRO

from Matt Rice, District Director for Congressman Mike Bost

CAIRO, IL – U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Muprhysboro) today joined U.S. Housing Secretary Ben Carson in Cairo for a review of public housing units, a roundtable with local officials, and a public forum with residents of the Elmwood and McBride housing complexes.  Bost invited Carson to visit Cairo in writing and during a meeting in Bost’s Washington, D.C. office in July.

“I appreciate Secretary Carson accepting our invitation to visit Cairo,” said Bost.  “These were tough conversations, but it was important that federal housing officials be able to put a face to these stories of struggle.  That’s why I knew there was no substitute for having the secretary on the ground with us in Cairo.  I am hopeful that this continued dialogue will spur new solutions to save Cairo and help these families transition to safer and more stable living conditions.”

If the Cardinals Are Honest About Wanting To Win, Jose Martinez Must Play

Cardinal 1B-OF Jose Martinez (101 ESPN photo)

The Cardinals need to clean up at the cleanup spot.

Hello there, Jose Martinez!

It doesn’t matter that Martinez is a 29-year-old rookie with only 185 big-league plate appearances to his name.

It doesn’t matter that his winding journey to the majors took nearly 10 years and more than 3,600 minor-league plate appearances before the Cardinals gave him a gig late last summer.

If Martinez is overexposed to MLB pitching, we may see his weaknesses exploited. He could lose confidence, and it might mean the end of his big-league dream. But don’t worry about that now. Your team is 3.5 games out of first place, and Martinez is a dependable source of offense. So use him.

Nathan Lewis – WF Gazette Photo

An 83-year-old West Frankfort native, who has lived in Israel for more than 40 years, said he knew from age eight his life’s purpose had something to do with the nation many consider to be the Promised Land.

“When I was a child I heard my mother and my aunt talk about our possible Jewish ancestry,” Lewis said. “I wasn’t paying particular attention and I have no proof that it is true.” Lewis told his story last week seated in a comfortable chair in the living room of his childhood home on South Day Street in West Frankfort. He has been in the U.S. for several months for medical treatments and hopes to return to Jerusalem in September.

“As a child anything that pertained to Israel—books, magazine, or speakers—tugged at me,”Lewis said.  “I knew from eight-years-old I had a call to Israel. I just knew that God’s presence was in me somehow. I knew that somehow my destiny was connected with Israel.”

SPRINGFIELD, IL – (Cole Lauterbach, Illinois News Network.  Please Click on the link above for the full story. Here is an excerpt below.)

Illinois Republicans say the Democrats’ education reform measure may have broken their own statehouse rules as well as the state Constitution.

The education reform bill, Senate Bill 1, was passed on May 31st. Senate Democrats put a procedural hold on it, saying they wanted cooler heads to prevail. But they kept it until July 31st, when the bill would have needed more votes to have passed than had originally voted for it.

But Senate Democrats put a procedural hold on it before sending it to Gov. Bruce Rauner, fearing a veto and saying they wanted cooler heads to prevail. They kept it until July 31, but a bill needs a supermajority – or 71 votes – in the state House after June 1.
