The dictionary defines astray as “off the right path or route; in error.” Most people have periods in their lives when they “go astray.” For some, it’s a fleeting misstep and they get back on the right path in no time. But for others, going astray becomes their lifestyle.
“They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways” (Psalm 95:10).
This verse is followed by a verse that pronounce condemnation for this kind of living: “They shall never enter my rest” (Psalm 95:11).
This is not an attractive outcome. The only way to avoid it is to remain steadfast in our faith. We must fix “our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2). We must not turn to the right or the left, but continue our journey to Him.
Jesus has blazed the trail by showing how to live in this world.
Prayer Suggestion: Lord, keep me looking to You as I walk the path of life.

The Bible says, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10 NIV). That means sit down and stay quiet. That’s how you hear God and get near God. You have to sit alone and just be quiet with your Bible and say, “God, is there anything you want to say to me?” You read God’s Word, and you talk to him about what’s on your heart.
God says he will give you the wisdom you need to recognize his voice and follow through on what he says: “It is the LORD who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6 GNT).
Pray this today: “God, I want to listen to you, not the voices of doubt. I want to get close to you and get to know you better. I want to hear you, and I promise to then obey you. I want to be one of the people that you can use and bless.”
A hot summer weekend, when Chicago should be at its most livable, brings an undercurrent of dread and horror to this city. Summer is block party season, beach season, baseball season. But in some neighborhoods, summer is killing season — when armed gang members run amok firing at each other and anyone in their way.

Results from voting Tuesday showed once again that few things have more power in American politics than an endorsement from President Trump. Empirical evidence proves it.

Thankfully, a heroic citizen with a permit to legally carry a concealed handgun was able to save countless lives in Florida Saturday when he shot a gunman who opened fire on a back-to-school event attended by over 150 students at a park in Titusville, Florida.

People often complain about the increased security measures necessary in today’s world. Lines at airports are too long. Two forms of identification are required to get money out of the bank. Log-in names and passwords are needed to access sensitive information online. But people want to feel secure on many levels, especially in their interpersonal relationships—and, more importantly, in their relationship with God.
“I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name. He will call on Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him” (Psalm 91:14–15).
Ultimate security, of course, can be found only in God. He is our source of help in times of trouble. Nothing that happens to us is a surprise to Him. He loves us and promises to be with us through everything.
Challenge for Today: Remember that the most important security available is in Christ Jesus.

The Bible tells us that Noah listened to God. And what did he hear? He heard God’s warning that the world was going to be destroyed. He believed what he had not yet seen. That’s what faith is — being certain of something we don’t see.
Noah didn’t turn away from the vision God had given him. Instead, he built the ark.
God is going to give you a goal for your life, and some people may think it’s pretty crazy. But you have to stay focused on what you know God has said through his Word, the Bible. Then, you have to go build your ark!
In the crazy, topsy-turvy year of 2018, socialism is somehow on the rise in America. To those of us unfortunate enough to have been born in the Soviet Union, this is troubling.
