Pauline Virginia Carnago, 93, of Sesser, died November 9, 2013 at her home.

Pauline was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic in Sesser.

Pauline was born March 20, 1920, in Herrin, to Charles Rimkus and Anna (Tutkus) Rimkus.  She married Attilio “Skipper” Carnago and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Charles (Georgia) Carnago, of Arnold, MO, John (Judy) Carnago, of Mattawan, MI and Mary (Ray) Bushong, Waltonville, IL.  Pauline is also survived by grandchildren, Joey (Tammy) Bushone, Michele (Jay Herberholt), Angela Siebert), Kristen (Anthony) Buss, Stephanie Bunch, Melanie Carnago, Michael (Patty) Carnago and Tiffanie Carnago.  She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sesser, IL at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14,  Visitation will be on Thursday November 14, 2013 at 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral home in Sesser, IL.  Interment will be in San Carlos Cemetery in Herrin.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the donor’s choice

Obituary – Faye Virginia Bacon Wyatt – Christopher

CHRISTOPHER – Faye Virginia Bacon Wyatt, 94, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, in Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.

Faye was born April 26, 1919, in Reynoldsville, the daughter of Fred and Sadie (Rippee) Crider.

Faye worked for many years in Franklin County offices and she was active in the Jolly Jills singing group, Eastern Star and was a member of Greenwood Methodist Church. She loved her family, friends, and parties, always being the first to punctually arrive.

Faye married Noble Durward Bacon in Benton, Ky. on May 11, 1940. He died on March 7, 1969, in Benton. She then married Maynard Wyatt on Feb. 29, 1980, and was divorced on June 16, 1989. He passed away Aug. 30, 1999, in Texas. Faye was also preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Frederick Durward Bacon, who died Aug. 25, 1943.

She is survived by her son, Richard Noble Bacon of Christopher; grandson, Michael Bacon of Odessa, Texas; granddaughter, Christi Bacon of Friendswood, Texas; and her nieces and nephews, Gwen Risch of St. Louis, Jim and Cyndy Turner of Christopher, Jane Fiorenzi of Herrin, George Smith of St. Charles and Jim and Jeanne Pfotenhauer of Huntley.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in Harrison Cemetery in Buckner, with the Rev. Jean Webster officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Greenwood Methodist Church.

Obituary – Christine Marie Furlow – Christopher

CHRISTOPHER – Christine Marie Furlow, 78, of Christopher, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

She was born December 25, 1934 in West Frankfort to Joe Bishop and Marie Lowery Bishop.

Christine worked as a housekeeper at Redwood Manor in Sesser, IL

She is survived by her children, Debbie and Joe Sisney, Mulkeytown, IL, Dale Ann and Eugene Braden, of Valier, Donna and Tressa Furlow, of Christopher, IL, Darlene Furlow, Christopher, IL, Diana Sue Ingersoll, Christopher, IL and Donna and Kenneth Ingersoll, Centralia, IL.

Christine is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Stalcup, of West Frankfort.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Dana, and three brothers and three sisters.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mulkeytown Cemetery with Brother Bob Furlow officiating.  Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Obituary – Winnie Genevieve Browning – Benton

BENTON — Winnie Genevieve Browning, 98, of Benton, received her promotion to Heaven on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013 at 5:45 p.m.  Winnie was a resident of Helia Healthcare at the time of her death.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. Kent Dunford officiating.  Burial will be in the Liberty-Ridlin Cemetery in Macedonia.  Visitation will be after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Benton First Free Will Baptist Church.

Winnie, known by all as Genevieve, was born on Nov. 20, 1914 to William and Alma Page.  She was a graduate of Benton High School with the Class of 1933.  She married James Martin Browning on September 28, 1935.  He preceded her in death on September 24, 1997.  They were devoted to each other for the 62 years that they were married.  She was a homemaker who lived her entire life in Franklin County.  She helped Martin on the family farm that they owned and operated for many years.  She was a longtime member of Franklin County Home Extension.  She was a great cook and homemaker.  Friends and family especially enjoyed her coconut pie.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Nora) Browning, Ewing, IL and Janice (Val) Pritchett, Normal, IL and by four grandchildren, Steven (Sandy) Browning, Susan (David) Schmitt, Mark (Julie) Pritchett and Emily (Matt) Carter.  One granddaughter, Shelley Browning Romani, preceded her in death.  She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Tyler Pritchett, Matthew Pritchett, Sydney Browning, Jordan Miller, Lucas Carter and Helena Carter.  She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John (Lorene) Page and Thurmond (Norma) Page.

Genevieve and Martin were members of Webb’s Prairie Freewill Baptist Church for many years where she served as a Sunday School teacher.  They later joined the First Freewill Baptist Church in Benton where she was still a member.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and nurses at Helia Healthcare and to Dr. Rethorst for their care and concern.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

Obituary – Sarah “Ruth” Presley – Ina

Sarah “Ruth” Presley, 86, of Ina, Illinois went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Countryside Assisted Living, in Mt. Vernon, IL.

She was born December, 19, 1926 in Ina, Illinois to Alva L. and Esther Stringfield Fowler.  She married Alvin V. Presley on December, 6, 1947.  He preceded her in death on July 24, 2002.

Ruth is survived by her children Linda and David Scrivner, of Belle Rive, Vernon and Renee Presley, of Ina, and Diane and Pat Murphy, of Mt. Vernon;  nine grandchildren: Mallory (Chad) Welch, of Swansea, IL, Wade (Tara) Scrivner, of Washington, IL, Amelia Presley, of Chicago, Courtney (Brandon) Royer, of Elgin, IL, Annessa (Brent) Witges, of Mt. Vernon, Blaine, Ansley and Logan Murphy, of Mt. Vernon, IL and Christy (Doug) Huse, of Foristell, Missouri and Colby and Ethan Royer, of Elgin, IL and Brittany and Kevin Welch, of Swansea, IL.

She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Kathleen Bumpus and husband Lloyd Bumpus, of Mt. Vernon, brother-in-law Joe Huddleston, of Shreveport, LA and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Skinner, and two brothers, Stanton Fowler and James Robert Fowler.

Ruth was a faithful and lifelong member of the Ina United Methodist Church where throughout the years she was treasurer, song leader and Sunday school teacher.

Ruth began doing hair when she was 12 and she would go to older ladies’ homes and fix their hair for Sunday.  She later apprenticed under Louise Fitzgerrell and then worked for many years with Allie Clinton.  She opened her own beauty shop in Ina in 1966.  She remained open for business until May of 2012.  She loved doing hair for more than 74 years.

She was an avid Mt. Vernon Rams basketball fan and enjoyed gospel music, traveling and being with her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnston Funeral Home in Ina with the Rev. Gary Whipple and the Rev. Ed Endsley officiating.  Interment will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina.  Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ina United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Obituary – Larry Allen Flowers – Mulkeytown

MULKEYTOWN — Larry Allen Flowers, 60, of Mulkeytown, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at home.

Larry was a farmer and he also sold trailers.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge.

Larry was born Nov. 23, 1952, in Christopher to Larry Dale and Vera (Hiller) Flowers of Mulkeytown.

He married Pricilla (Ames) Flowers on Feb. 3, 1978, and she survives of Mulkeytown.

Larry is also survived by his children, Larry Ames Flowers of Mulkeytown and Lacy Ames Flowers of Mulkeytown and grandson, Austin James Holt; and brother, Richard Lee and Gayla Flowers of Mulkeytown.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Mulkeytown Cemetery with Brother Denny Bush officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Obituary – M. Geraldine (Overturf) Johnson – Christopher

CHRISTOPHER — M. Geraldine (Overturf) Johnson, 87, of Christopher, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at home.

Geraldine was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Buckner to Fitzhugh Raymond Overturf and Francis Ann (Sanders) Overturf.

Geraldine had worked at the Pentagon as a legal secretary, and she was also a homemaker.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Christopher.  Geraldine was also a member of the Red Hats of West Frankfort, and Eastern Star and was also an excellent seamstress.

She married James Carl Johnson II on Nov. 6, 1953, and he survives of Christopher.

Other survivors include children, Jennifer Carol Johnson of Christopher and James Carl Johnson III and his wife, Shanna (Bailey), of Goreville and grandchildren, James Carl Johnson IV and Evan Williams Johnson.  She is also survived by sister-in-law, Evelyn (Gulliver) Overturf of Energy; double cousin, Mary Ann (Overturf) Patterson Harrell of Fort Myers, Fla. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by parents; two children, Kenneth Lawrence Johnson and Mary Francis Johnson; and one brother, Clarence Melvin Overturf.

Mrs. Johnson’s wishes were to be cremated.  A celebration of life will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at T-Street Pub, 105 N. Thomas St., in Christopher.

Obituary – Connie (Riggs) Redding – Christopher

CHRISTOPHER — Connie (Riggs) Redding, 65, of Christopher, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Franklin Hospital emergency room.

Connie worked at the cookie factory in Du Quoin.

Connie was born Aug. 14, 1948, in Waukegan to Leonard Riggs Sr. and Theola Bouffiou.  Her stepmother is Ann Riggs.

Other survivors include children, Eric Redding and Liz Durbin of Benton, Randy and Terry Dawn Redding of Mulkeytown and Natalie and Tony Elam of Christopher.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Samantha, Breanna, Chase, Emma, Daniel, Sami Jo, Nick, Becca, Dakota, David, Erica, Randi and Emily; and sisters and brother, Kim Duiguid of Royalton, Cindy Hill of Christopher, Lori Mitchell of Sikeston, Mo., and Leonard Riggs Jr. of Christopher.

Connie was preceded in death by her mother.

A memorial visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher.

Lanny “Dean” Uhls, 67, of Benton and formerly of Sesser, died Monday, October 28, 2013 at his home.

dean martDean was born May 31, 1946 in Du Quoin, IL, the son of Roy Bratton Uhls and Josephine (Aaron) Uhls.

He worked at K & M Liquors in Benton.

Dean is survived by his children Kevin Uhls, of Du Quoin, Keith and Lorri Uhls, of Du Quoin, Mike Canter, of Florida, Angela and Greg Brugger, of Benton, Joe Uhls, of Carbondale, Jessica and Eric Parker, of Benton and Kimberly Uhls, of Sesser.  Also surviving are his grandchildren,  Marshall, Dylan, Levi, Shane, Sam, Zach, Madyson, Takoda, Austin, Cole, Calee, Brylee, Damian, Jersey, Carlee, Kaden, Elly, Annie, Hunter, and Braxton.

Dean is also survived by one great-grandchild, Jayden; two sisters, Jean Glenn, of Valier, IL and Justine Lewis, of Valier, IL; sisters-in-law Marie Uhls, of Valier, IL and Shirley Uhls, of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Don Uhls and Bob Uhls.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, IL, with Brother David Gilley officiating.  Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m.  Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, in Valier, IL.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

Obituary – June A. Summers – Formerly of Christopher

June A. Summers, 90, of West Frankfort and formerly of Christopher, died Oct. 25, 2013 at Helia Healthcare in Benton.

June was born Dec. 13, 1922 in Christopher to Hobart Kirkpatrick and Ruie Allen Kirkpatrick.

She married Herbert Layman Summers and he preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2013.  June worked as an LPN.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Gail Naylor, of Jackson, Michigan.  She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  June was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Layman Allen Summers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, IL, with Brother Burton Wills officiating.  Visitation will from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service at 2 p.m.  Interment will be at Mulkeytown Cemetery, in Mulkeytown, IL.
