Pastor Rick Warren: God Is Looking for Faithful People

“The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him” (2 Chronicles 16:9 NLT).
The Bible tells us three things about the importance of faith.
1. God is looking for faithful people.
God is physically, visibly, actively taking the initiative to look for faithful people that he can bless. Second Chronicles 16:9 says, “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him” (NLT).
This has been one of my life verses, and I’ve learned that if you make yourself usable, God will wear you out. If you get “blessable,” he will bless your socks off! (That’s why I don’t wear socks.) God is looking for faithful people that he can use.
2. Faithful people are hard to find.
The Bible says in Proverbs 20:6, “Everyone talks about how faithful he is, but just try to find someone who really is!” (GNT). A lot of people talk the talk, but they don’t really trust God. They trust their credit card instead. They say they believe in God, but they don’t really trust him when it comes to their finances, health, or job.
Psalm 53:2-3 says this: “God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!” (NLT).
3. Faithfulness is the key to blessing and victory.
First John 5:4-5 says, “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God” (NLT).
The Bible says in Proverbs 28:20, “A faithful man will have many blessings” (HCSB). I want your life to have many blessings. But to have those blessings, you have to learn faithfulness. God tests your faithfulness in different ways. Will you let him grow you in this area so that you can be a person of faith?

James F. Perrotto – Royalton, IL

James F. Perrotto, 60, of Royalton, IL, died suddenly at his home Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
He was born July 13, 1957 in Meadville, PA and spent much of his youth in Southern Illinois. He graduated from Frankfort Community High School in 1975 and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
James was president and CEO for many years of Barber Mine Timber Company, Inc., a wood products firm located in Perry County. He was also a member of the boards of directors of several publishing companies, including Community Media Group, Oelwien Publishing Co., Timmus Investments and Mississippi Publishing Company.
He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
James traveled extensively throughout South and Central America, residing in Roatan, Honduras, Panama City, Panama and Cancun, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ann Bagnato Perrotto and James Perrotto; maternal grandparents, Harriet and Fred Gisewhite and several aunts and uncles.
James is survived by his wife, Luz Adriana Narvaez Chara Perrotto, whom he married in Bogota, Columbia in 2007; mother-in-law and father-in-law Maria Rubiela Chara and Guillermo Narvaez Espana, both of Cali, Columbia.
Also surviving are his parents, Jill Gisewhite Perrotto and L.J. Perrotto, of West Frankfort. Other survivors include his brothers and their wives, John D. Perrotto (Tammy), of Dutzow, MO, Mark J. Perrotto (Kendra), Tunnell Hill Lake of Egypt; niece Jenna Perrotto Johnston (Walter) and daughter Paige, of Columbus, OH; nephews Gregory Perrotto, of Wolcott, Indiana, Garrett Perrotto, Kansas City, MO; aunts and uncles Linda Perrotto Johnson, of Erie, PA, Helen and Fritz Gisewhite, of Akron, Ohio; Roslyn Mullen, Atlanta, GA along with several cousins.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April, 27, 2018 at Union Funeral Home, in West Frankfort. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Route 37 South (Foxcroft Ward). Burial will follow at Tower Heights Cemetery, West Frankfort.

HUMBLY OBEDIENT
READ 2 SAMUEL 22:1 THROUGH 24:25; LUKE 16:1-18
How should true believers be remembered?
The author of 2 Samuel didn’t remember King David as being perfect. David committed sins. He even disobeyed God by taking a census of eligible fighting men in Israel. Yet David always repented when God convicted him. For this reason, David is remembered for his humility. He acknowledged that the good things he achieved were only accomplished through God’s power.
“It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He causes me to stand on the heights” (2 Samuel 22:33–34).
Today’s believers should follow David’s example through humble submission and by looking to God for strength. When Christians are willing to follow the Spirit’s leading, He will make their way secure and cause them to stand on the heights of God’s power. Then, like David, they will be remembered for glorifying God by humbly doing His work on the earth.
Challenge for Today: Humbly bow to the one who calls you His own. Allow His Spirit to lead you.

INA, Ill. – Sixteen Christopher High School students took their first step to becoming college students today during College Signing Day with Rend Lake College. RLC advisors met with the students to pass along important information, answer questions, and enroll students into summer and fall classes.
Registration for Summer and Fall 2018 classes at RLC is going on now. Classes start the week of June 4-8 for the summer semester and during the week of August 20-24 for the fall semester. Contact RLC’s Academic Advisement Center at 618-437-5321, Ext. 1266 to schedule an appointment for summer or fall registration.

Over the course of a lifetime, the average worker with a postsecondary degree will earn approximately $1 million more than a worker without a postsecondary education. In fact, by 2020, an estimated two-thirds of job openings will require college education or training.

Hurley named MVC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois thrower Ricky Hurley has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week following his performance at the Jesse Owens Classic, the conference announced Tuesday.
Hurley set personal-bests in both the hammer throw and the shot put at Ohio State this past weekend and for the second-straight week is one of only two male throwers in the NCAA to rank in the top-20 regionally for the discus, shot put and hammer throw.
This marks the third time this season that Hurley has earned the honor and the 10th time in 12 tries (83%) during the 2017-18 season that a Saluki has been honored as the MVC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Overall, Hurley’s recognition marks the 17th time this season that a Saluki has earned an athlete of the week honor from the conference.

Hurley’s stellar outdoor season continued at the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by the Ohio State University. The Fox River Grove, Ill. native notched a pair of personal-best marks in the shot put and the hammer throw. The four-time All-MVC honoree set a lifetime-best in the hammer throw at 206′-6″ (62.94m) to finish fourth and followed with an outdoor PR in the shot put at 60′-0.5″ to place second. Hurley currently ranks in the top-20 in the NCAA West Region in the discus (12th), shot put (17th) and hammer throw (20th) and is one of two throwers in the NCAA, along with Georgia’s Denzel Comenentia, to rank in the top-20 regionally for all three events.
