Trick-or-treat at the Illinois Governor’s Mansion

SPRINGFIELD – Ghosts, goblins and the best dressed Trick-or-treaters today visited the Governor’s Mansion. Professor McGonagall, also known as First Lady Diana Rauner, greeted children and handed out treats with Dragon (Sugar) and Dobby the Elf (Stella), from Harry Potter. The Illinois Association of Wholesale Distributors provided the Halloween treats.
The children also had the chance to see the Great Pumpkin Display. Pumpkins were courtesy of The Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur, Illinois.
“Stella, Sugar and I are excited to welcome trick-or-treaters to the Mansion this year, our first Halloween celebration since the Mansion’s grand re-opening this summer,” said the first lady and the chair of the Illinois Governor’s Mansion Association, a not-for-profit organization. “We enjoyed seeing all the children’s costumes and sharing in the capital city’s Halloween festivities.”

Southern Illinois senior quarterback Matt DeSomer was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Sunday night.
Making his fifth career start, DeSomer rallied SIU with four-unanswered touchdowns in a 49-35 win over Missouri State. He completed 19-of-24 passes for a career-high 206 yards, plus three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran the ball 14 times for 92 yards.
The rally started with a game-tying score at the end of the first half, when DeSomer engineered an 11-play, 75-yard TD drive, culminating in a four-yard touchdown pass to TE Nigel Kilby with 11 seconds left. SIU had no timeouts remaining on the game-tying drive. To start the second half, DeSomer’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Landon Lenoir gave Southern its first lead.
DeSomer is the first Saluki player to win league honors this season. The last time an SIU player won Player of the Week was on Oct. 14, 2017, when Sam Straub received the honor.

Pastor Rick Warren: Power in Prayer Starts with Believing God’s Goodness

”Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever” (Psalm 23:6 NIV).
Why does this matter for your prayer life? Because until you’re absolutely convinced that God is a good God and that he never does bad in your life, your prayers are going to be powerless and passionless and pointless.
On the other hand, when you understand that, no matter how you feel and no matter what your life looks like, God is for you and not against you; that he is a good God and he wants what’s best for you, even more than you want it yourself; and that he knows what will make you happy more than you—when these truths become the foundation of all your prayers, then your prayers become powerful and passionate and purposeful.
Nothing’s more important in your life than learning how to pray effectively. It’s the way you tap into God’s power, God’s presence, God’s peace, God’s purpose, and God’s plan.
So, what do you want to see God do in your life? What big things do you want to ask of him, believing in his good purpose for you? With God’s goodness as your foundation, what do you expectantly hope he will accomplish in you and in the work of your hands?
