Shirley Faye Delaney — Webbers Falls, OK

Shirley Faye Delaney, 82, of Webbers Falls, OK, passed away at 12:55 p.m., on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Stonebridge Senior Living Center, Benton, IL.

She was born on September 18, 1936, to Dan and Chloe (May) Rogers in Webbers Falls, OK. She married George Delaney and he preceded her in death.

Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed taking care of her lawn and gardening.

She is survived by her three children, Wauleua Kimmel and husband Jeff of Benton, IL, Charles Delaney and wife Tammy of Marion, IL and David Delaney and wife Kelley of Lake Forest, IL; five grandchildren, Nicole Dering, Kyle Kimmel, Mallory Jorgensen and husband Erik, Madison Delaney and Meredith Delaney; five great-grandchildren, Faith Dering, Braden Dering, Katelyn Dering, Drake Dering and Jackson Jorgensen.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Chloe Rogers; husband, George Delaney; and two brothers, David Watson and Danny Rogers.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

A private graveside service will be held at Fields Cemetery in Porum, OK.

Bill Robinson-Sesser, IL

Bill Robinson, 75, of Sesser, passed away on May 22, 2019.

He was born on April 20, 1944 in DuQuoin, IL to Virgil and Muriel (Clinton) Robinson.

He is survived by his children Sheryl Bennett of Mt Vernon, Martina (Scott) Randolph of Sesser and Justin Applekamp of Sesser; grandchildren Brittany (Brandon) Wilson of Christopher, Taylor Cockrum of Mt Vernon, Brandon Cockrum of Sesser, Emma Beaman of Sesser, Kenne Robinson of Scheller; great grandchildren Shon, Braxton and Clay; and one brother Delmar Robinson.

There’s no way to sum up a person in just a few words but here are some things we can remember about Bill. He proudly served in the United States Army. He was an avid fan of Bears Football. He loved boating and fishing, was a great grill master and always enjoyed an ice cold glass of milk with dinner. He had a soft spot for music and old Westerns and always spent as much time as possible outside in the warm summer months. He is now at peace with those that have passed before him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Sesser VFW on June 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM with military rites. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the Sesser VFW.

Agnes “Peggy” O. Gunter — Benton, IL

Agnes “Peggy” O. Gunter, 84, of Benton, passed away at 10:05 a.m., on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Benton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

She was born on May 25, 1934, to Corbett and Willie (DeVore) Owens in Clearwater , SC. Peggy was a Homemaker and Caregiver all her life. On June 16, 1955, she married James D. Gunter and he preceded her in death on March 29, 2014.

Peggy was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed gardening, reading and listening to music.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gay L. Nutty and husband Michael and Shelia K. Simion and husband Lane; one granddaughter, Jayme Tubbs and husband Brandon; one grandson, Taz Simion; one great-granddaughter, Emily Tubbs; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Earl Ownes.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Pate Funeral Home.

Burial will take place in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Janetta Lucille Marteney — Warner Robins, GA

Janetta Lucille Marteney, 79, of Warner Robins, GA, formerly of Benton, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019, in Warner Robins, GA.

She was born on September 18, 1939, in Benton, IL., to James “Dick” Glover and Jamima Irby Glover. She attended Grant Grade School, Webster Junior High and was a 1957 graduate of Benton Consolidated High School.

After graduation she and her best friend Donna accepted civil service jobs in Washington, D.C., working as secretaries in the Department of the Navy. She married Jack Marteney in 1960, in Virginia. They were blessed with two daughters. Jacklynn in 1961, and Kelly Ann in 1962. Janetta returned to Benton in 1963, and accepted a job at Scott Air Force Base Hospital, In the years prior to her retirement she was the Executive Secretary for the Director of Nursing. She retired in 1999 and moved back to Benton. In more recent years she made her home in Warner Robins with her daughter Jacklynn.

Janetta is survived by her loving daughter, Jacklynn; granddaughter Kelly and husband Brian Gagne; grandson Andrew and wife Melissa Shaw; Great grandsons, which she adored, Jackson, James and Evan Gagne and Zachary Shaw; sister Dixie Simmons; sisters-in-law Cheryl Glover and Francis Glover; nieces Amy Russell and Amanda Rone; nephews Mike Simmons and Daniel Glover; and many great nieces and nephews and her many life long friends from Scott Air Force Base Hospital.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kelly Ann; son-in-law, Alan Shaw; sister, Peggy Lou Glover; brothers, Richard Glover, Jack Glover, Jimmy Glover and his wife Mary; and brother-in-law, John Simmons.

Reba Mae Hilty-Christopher, IL

Reba Mae Hilty, 75, of Christopher, passed away on May 21, 2019.

She was born on July 28, 1943 in Mulkeytown to Robert and Ruth (Bacon) Edmonds. She married David Hilty and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2019.

She is survived by her children Denise Slater and David W. Hilty; three grandchildren; one sister Nancy Rice and one brother Roy Edmonds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother Robert Edmonds.

Graveside services will be on Friday May 24, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Zeigler Cemetery with Brother Ivan Ryan officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Tracie B. Willis – Benton, IL

Tracie B. Willis, age 43, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 in Lexington, KY. She was born on August 29, 1975, in Benton, Illinois to Bruce and Vickie (Adkins) Willis.

Tracie graduated Benton Consolidated High School in 1993. She graduated Rend Lake College in 1994 with an Associate of Science degree in Accounting. Shortly after her graduation from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting with a Minor in Finance, Tracie followed her passion for the Thoroughbred industry and moved to Lexington, KY.

She sincerely loved horses and all aspects of the business, and was an avid horse racing fan as well as a strong supporter of several organizations committed to the welfare of horses. Tracie treasured her precious dogs, and considered them family, especially her beloved Buddy and Lexi, who passed several years ago, and is survived by her current canine companions, Paco and Ginger.

Tracie overcame her health struggles with great courage and strength, and did not let them hold her back from being the most loyal friend anyone could ask for, extending kindness to friends and strangers alike, and living life to the fullest. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way, and will be greatly missed.

Tracie was last employed by Darby Dan Farm, where she was a dedicated team member for seven years. She was totally committed to the Farm’s business operation and was a consummate talent in her many roles. She was the face behind Darby Dan’s social media, oversaw human resources and insurance, a popular Darby Dan tour guide, and represented the farm in multiple professional associations. She was a proficient and respected master of accounting.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by an older sister, Melissa Willis of Benton, Illinois, along with several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Preceding her death were her Paternal Grandparents, Lloyd & Helen Willis, and her Maternal Grandparents, James & Lili Mae Adkins.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker set to unveil $41.5 billion ‘Rebuild Illinois’ capital plan that includes $1.8 billion in new and increased taxes

Gov. J.B. Pritzker is set to unveil a six-year, $41.5 billion plan to repair Illinois’ crumbling roads, bridges, public schools and university buildings in a massive proposal that calls for nearly $1.8 billion in new taxes and tax increases, according to documents provided to lawmakers at a Friday briefing.

Morgan Robertson is Franklin County Farm Bureau scholarship winner

This year’s recipient of the Franklin County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship was Morgan Robertson from Benton High School. Morgan is the daughter of Kelly and Lori Robertson of Benton, IL.

Morgan also received the Franklin County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Scholarship as well as the first Farm City Days Committee Scholarship.

The is enrolled in Ag Business at Rend Lake College studying Plant and Soil Science with a focus on Plant Genetics. She has been in FFA at Benton High School all four years and has held the positions of Sentinel, Reporter and her Senior year was President.

Morgan also received the People’s Bank Scholarship, The Legence Bank/Mr. A Scholarship and the Rend Lake College Foundation/Mr. A Scholarship. She has been on the National Honor Society for four years.

Morgan has been working for Precision Crop Services LLC in Benton, IL as a Soil Technician for three years.

We are very proud of Morgan and what she has accomplished and know that she will continue to make us proud. Morgan is planning on staying in or returning to the area after her education is complete.
