Linda Ilene (Kays) Roberts, 64, of Ewing; went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
linda robertsFuneral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Steel City Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Joe Zbinden officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Leffler – Poulson Funeral Home of Benton, and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour Thursday at the Steel City Missionary Baptist Church.

She was born April 27, 1951 in Benton, to George Edward and Kathleen Roberta (Winemiller) Kays. She married William Marion Roberts on September 28, 1973, and he preceded her in death on January 13, 2011

Linda was a member of the Steel City Missionary Baptist Church.

The Lord blessed them with a son, Christopher Marion Roberts. Then they were later blessed with a daughter-in-law, Toni Dayle (Sinks) Roberts. The Lord also blessed Linda and William with two grandchildren, Lucas Wade and Makinley Grace Roberts. Lucas and Makinley were their pride and joy.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin sister Brenda Jean Roberts, sister Mary Alice Page.

She will be sadly missed by her family, church family, and friends.

Brenda Kay Perkins, 70, of Thompsonville, IL passed away July 14, 2015 at Westside Care Center, in West Frankfort, IL.

Brenda was born December 26, 1944 in Parma, MO, the daughter of Reginald Maulding and Kathalene King.

She was a homemaker.

Brenda was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Thompsonville.

Brenda was married to Ronald Gene Perkins and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2002.

She is survived by her children Todd Dixon, Mt. Vernon, IL and Tammy Kercheval, Ada, OK; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers Donna Brown, Lacombe, LA, Joyce Phillips, Decatur, IL, Mike and Pam Maulding, Mattoon, IL and Shannon Maulding, Virginia Beach, VA.

Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one son, Ronald Perkins and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Gilbert Funeral Home, in Christopher, IL with the Rev. John Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mulkeytown Cemetery, in Mulkeytown, IL.

Judith Louise (Walley) Couey, age 72, of West Frankfort; died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at her home.

Judith CoueyJudith’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial celebration of the life of Judith Louise (Walley) Couey will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Judith’s home in West Frankfort.

Arrangements are through the Leffler – Poulson Funeral Home of Benton.

She was born on November 12, 1942 in West Frankfort, the daughter of Onnie Walley and Edna Mae (Williams) Walley.

Judith was a devoted genealogist for over 30 years, working with the Benton Public Library. She has published several genealogy books. She was also author of a poetry book and several children’s stories.

She is survived by her five children: Onna Donovan of Christopher, Gerald Spohn of Buckner, Jennifer Spohn of Florida, Virginia Spohn of West Frankfort, and Jayme Hahn of Washington state; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lillian Keller of Nebraska, and Debra Villarreal of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Onnie Walley and Edna Mae (Williams) Tedeschi; a brother Gerry Walley; and a grandson Jack Brake.

Bill Hastings 81, passed away July 13, 2015 at Franklin Hospital in Benton.

Bill Was born January 10, 1934 in Christopher to Charlie and Emma (Flatt) Hastings.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn (Haley) Hastings on August 19, 1994 and she survives of Sesser.

He was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church in Mulkeytown and he loved his church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rose (Williams) Hastings and one brother Don Hastings.

He is survived by his children Rebecca and Tom Hulvey of Armington, IL, Mark and Teresa Hastings of El Cajon, CA, Derrick and Alicia Hastings of El Cajon, CA, Kris and Ronald Johnson of San Antonio, TX, Stan and Margit Stritzel of Wichita, KS, Mike Stritzel and Connie Weintz of Christopher, grandchildren Zack Hastings, Tayler Hastings, Ashleigh Johnson, Courtney Johnson, Jacob McKenzie, J.J. DeLasso, Billy DeLasso, Cayden Hastings, Colton Hastings, Carson Hastings, Alaina Hastings, Haley Stritzel, and one great grandson Kaiden DeLasso.

Also survived by two brothers Larry and Linda Hastings of Benton and Jim and Sue Hastings of Christopher, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be on Saturday July 18, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with pastor Richard Sullins officiating. Burial will be in Mulkeytown Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday July 18, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Lulubelle (Tucker) Paxton – Christopher, IL

Lulubelle (Tucker) Paxton, 81, of Christopher, IL passed away July 11, 2015 at her home.

Lulubelle was born Nov. 8, 1933 in Sesser, IL the daughter of Lawrence Tucker and Freda (Merkel) Tucker.

She served in the U.S. Army and later worked as a licensed practical nurse in medical equipment sterilization.

She attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Benton, IL.

She is survived by her children, Dennis (Thelma) Paxton, of Benton, David Paxton, Hilton Head, South Carolina and Teresa Hallahan, Christopher; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son John Milton Paxton and two sisters, Geneva Baney and Imogene Frank.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Gilbert Funeral Home, in Christopher, with the Rev. Naomi Edmonds officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.

Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Obituary – Charlene Natalie Marlo – Sesser, IL

Charlene Natalie Marlo, 90, of Sesser, IL, passed away July 10, 2015 at Helia Healthcare, in Benton, IL.

Charlene was born May 20, 1925, in Sesser, the daughter of Charles LeVault and Audrey (Cockrum) Levault.

She was a business owner.

Charlene was married to Ceasar Marlo and he preceded her in death on January 3, 1967.

She is survived by one son, Joe and wife Nancy Marlo, of Sesser, and one daughter, Shelley and husband Danny Page, of Sesser; grandchildren Brook and Tom Williams, Justin and Michelle Marlo, Camron Marlo, Brian and Natalie Page and Heather and Ben Rice; great grandchildren Bria Williams, Cale Williams, Max Marlo, Alex Marlo, Addison Page, Carlie Page and Ryker “Sweet Pea” Rice; brothers Jack LeVault, of Newport Richie, FL and Joe LeVault, of Thomasville, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers Percy LeVault, Melvin LeVault, Carlos LeVault, and Robert LeVault.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, in Sesser, with Brother Bryant Harris officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.

Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, in Sesser.

Halle Young, age 7, of Benton; died on Sunday, June 21, 2015 in Atlanta, GA, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Halle was born on October 30, 2007 in Carbondale the daughter of Kimberly Marie Ingoldsby and Benjamin Everett Young.

Halle had just completed first grade at Benton Grade School.

She was baptized at Christ’s View Christian Church in Christopher on May 17, 2015. Halle was very artistic, had a beautiful singing voice and loved to whistle. She also enjoyed drawing and making pictures. She loved going to church and was full of life and love for God.

Halle is survived by her parents Kimberly Marie Ingoldsby of Tampa, FL and Benjamin Everett Young of Coello; paternal grandparents: Olen and Sandy Young of Coello, and Dianne Mitchell of Buckner; maternal grandparents Bob and Melissa Ingoldsby of Christopher, IL, Christine and Billy Carpenter of Christopher, IL; siblings: Clayton Flood, Sophia Brower, Lyleigh Young, and Hatti Ingoldsby; paternal great-grandparents: Constance Young of Coello, Gil Newton of Ava, IL; maternal great-grandparents: Dale and Ann Leffler, of Christopher, IL, Paul and Marianne Fowler, Wendell and Karen Smith; great-great-grandmother Marie Heckman; two very special uncles: Braden and Kameron Ingoldsby; also the Furlow and Osborne families.

“KJ” was born on July 1, 2006 in Carbondale, IL the son of Justin Osborne and Kimberly Ingoldsby.

He had just completed the third grade at Benton Grade School.

He enjoyed many activities which included playing little league baseball, wrestling, Cub Scouts, Junior Ranger Football, skating, golfing, camping, fishing, video games, and riding four wheelers.

“KJ” especially loved spending time with his Pa Pa. Together they shared a love for 80’s to the present Heavy Metal Music.

Rick McClerren – Benton

Rick McClerren, 68, of Benton passed away Monday, July 6, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Herrin, IL on October 16, 1946, the son of William Silas & Mary Lou (Summers) McClerren.

Mr. McClerren was an Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He served in the Honor Guard at Camp Riley during President Eisenhower’s Funeral. He was a retired Coal Miner. He loved to work on cars. He loved his kids and his dog-Shaggy.

Mr. McClerren is survived by his mother, Mary McClerren, Benton, four children, Bridgett Thacker and Art Young of McLeansboro, Patrick McClerren of Benton, Kevin McClerren and wife Gayla of Benton and Mike McClerren and wife Tina of Logan, 13 grandchildren 1 great-grandson, two sisters, Candace Hall and husband Steve and Margaret Emerson; one brother, Sam McClerren and wife Karen.

Mr. McClerren was preceded in death by his father, by a daughter-Kelly J. Roberson, by a grandson and by a brother-in-law, Dale Emerson.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9 at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thompsonville. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Danny Lee Galloway, 56, of Sesser, IL, died Monday, July 6, 2015.

Danny Galloway PictureHe was born August 23, 1958 in DuQuoin, IL, the son of Donald Lee and Helen (Kirkpatrick)
Galloway. He married Michelle (Bowman) August 8, 1997.

Danny worked at Continental Tire and retired in 2008 after more than 31 years and
then started his own successful construction company (DLG Construction).

He graduated Sesser High School in 1976. He was a craftsman and loved
to work with wood, he loved tractors, traveling, and hats, and shoes; he was the
kind of person that never met a stranger and was very well thought of in his community.

Danny was member of Logan Street Baptist Church for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle; his daughter, Dacey (Galloway) Rogers and husband
Curtis of Carrier Mills, IL; a son, Dustin Galloway of Coulterville; 5 grandchildren
Dristen, Alyce, Hunter, Scarlett, and Presley; his mother Helen Galloway,
three sisters, Debbie (Galloway) Staley and husband, Jeff of Mt. Vernon, IL;
Diana (Galloway) Rea and husband Steve of Benton, IL; Dana (Galloway) Kingore
and husband Darrell of Ozark, MO; and many nieces, nephews, uncles
and aunts, cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Arrangements are being handled by Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, IL.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Visitation will be Wednesday July 8, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Burial will be in Horse Prairie Cemetery in Sesser.
