Terry Flood – Christopher

Terry Lee Flood, 60, passed away Thursday January 19, 2017 at the Herrin Hospital. Terry was born July 14, 1956 in Chicago, IL to praying hands image 3William and Diane (Jabczynski) Flood. He was married to Mary (Galloway) Flood and she survives of Christopher.

Terry was a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Terry will be greatly missed.  He believed in God, and was the rock of his family. Quoting his favorite western cowboy John Wayne “I am old fashioned, honest to goodness, flag waving patriot.

Survivors include his wife, Children Joy and Tommy Beloes of Christopher, Terry Lee Flood Jr. of Christopher, and Anthony Lee Flood of Christopher; four granddaughter and two grandsons; brothers and sisters William and Dorothy Flood of Thebes, Kimberly and Kenneth Walls of Zeigler, Virginia Eubanks of Valier, Robert and Tammy Flood of Mulkeytown, Lori and William Yelm of Willisville, IL, Vickie Brown of Zeigler, James and Amy Flood of Zeigler.

His wishes were to be cremated with no services.

Maxine Kling – Warfodsburg PA -former Franklin County Resident

Maxine Kling, 92, of Warfordsburg, PA., passed away Wednesday, January 18th, 2017, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, PA.

Maxine was born in Franklin County, Illinois on December 28, 1924, the daughter of the late Hallie E. (Rhine) and Charles A. Dorris.  She was the wife of David H. Kling whom she married on September 23, 1972.

Mrs. Kling was a great homemaker and cook. She also enjoyed dancing and country music.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter Susan R. and husband John Pare of Charleston, WV., sons Steve M. and wife Patricia Kling of Falls Church, VA., David H. and wife Joan Kling of Warfordsburg, PA., brothers Jack and wife Rena Dorris of Benton, IL., Charles and wife Tomoko Dorris of Pekin, IL., thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren an and thirteen great great grandchildren. Maxine is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was receded in death by daughters Sharon Y. Shaffer, Doris June Gammon, sons Jerry L. Gammon, Larry James Gammon and brother Bob Dorris.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA.

Funeral Service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 21, 2017  with Pastor John Hodge officiating.

Local funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Jacklyn Martineau – Ewing

Jacklyn Ann Martineau, 70, of Ewing, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at her residence.

She was born on October 14, 1946 to Jack and Dorothy (Swierski) Turner in New York, NY.

Jacklyn is survived by her children, Lisa Sehlke of Sesser, IL, James Dunavant of North West, IN and Mike Dunavant of Portage, IN; grandchildren, Kelly, Kevin and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Layla and Blake.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Jacklyn will be cremated and no services per her wishes.

Evelyn Furlow – Mulkeytown

Evelyn M. Furlow, 75, of Mulkeytown, IL, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017, following a long illness.

Evelyn was born to William “Ralph” Berner and Bertha (Cook) Berner in Mulkeytown, IL on July 12, 1941. Evelyn married Clyde thumbnail_Evelyn Furlow Picture 001Nolan Furlow on May 2, 1964 at the Mulkeytown Christian Church.  They were married for 52 years.

She graduated from Christopher High School in 1959 and studied nursing at Deaconess Hospital, St. Louis Missouri. After graduating in 1962, she began a 42-year career as a registered nurse at Marshall Browning Hospital, DuQuoin, Illinois. She retired in 2004, having served as a nursing supervisor for several years.

She enjoyed floral arranging, camping, reading, and spending time with grandkids. She and husband Clyde were 4-H leaders for over 35 years and she was active in the county 4-H Council. She was a member of the Mulkeytown Christian Church.

Evelyn is survived by the above family members: daughter Christy and husband William “Paul” Douglas, granddaughters Andrea and Chelsea Douglas, step-granddaughter Heather (Douglas) Rentfro and husband Curtis, great-granddaughters Emma and Lily Rentfro, all of Mulkeytown; and son Brad Furlow and companion Christian Fidura of Aurora, CO, brother Frederick “Ivan” Berner and wife Gloria, brothers-in law Bob Furlow and Elmer “Pete” Furlow and wife Maxine; and sister-in-law Betty Norris, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, a brother-in-law (Raymond Furlow), three sisters-in-law (Louise Miller, Ruby Koonce, Ruth Watson), three nephews (Brian Berner, Randy Furlow, Kenny Earnhart), and two nieces (Tina Hammonds and Vicky Wilson).   

Visitation will be on Monday January 16, 2017, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Mulkeytown Christian Church, Mulkeytown, IL and on Tuesday January 17, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 17, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will be at Mulkeytown, Cemetery, Mulkeytown, IL.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the West Franklin Historical District or the Mulkeytown Cemetery Association.

James Poynor Johnson – Benton, IL

James Poynor Johnson, 78, of Benton, IL, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 12, 2017 at his home.

He was born in Benton on March 23, 1938, the son of Clyde and Nellie (Poynor) Johnson.

He was married to Patsy Johnson for 31 years and she survives.

Mr. Johnson was an Army veteran, serving in the 10th Mountain Division from 1955 to 1958.

He was of the Nazarene faith.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Patsy; two daughters Karen St. John, of Indianapolis, IN and Sandra D. Saunders and husband Mark, of Benton; grandchildren Jake Saunders, Steven Godwin, Jr., Marco Alverez, Cindy Brower, Courtney Flillnger, Ryan Goodwin and Patricia Goodwin; several great grandchildren; step-children Linda Alvarez, of Benton, John Godwin, of Concord, NC and Steve Godwin, of Benton; sister Donna Batts Cooksey, of Benton; brother Albert Johnson, of Benton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, by sisters Lois Cowgur, Maxine Abbott, Betty Ferando; brothers David Robert Johnson and Paul Johnson.

Funeral services will held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Burial will at Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Brenda Robbins – Sesser

Brenda RobbinsBrenda K. Robbins, 73, of Sesser IL, passed away on Tuesday January 10. 2017 at 3:13 PM at the Franklin Hospital Emergency Room in Benton.

She was born to Alvin Lee and Rosalie (Minor) McBride. After the loss of her father at a young age her mother Rosalie then married Carl Galant. Brenda was married to Don Robbins on June 16, 1962 and he survives of Sesser.

She was a bank teller for many years at the Benton Community Bank, now known as the US Bank in Benton ,and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sesser.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter Debbie (Chuck) Eubanks of New Iberia, LA, and a son Donnie (Penny) Robbins of Sesser, five grandchildren; Anthony (Jen) Eubanks, Nicole (JD) Downey, Peyton Robbins, Presley Robbins, and Parker Robbins. four great grandchildren; Jaylon, Jarrick, Elijah, and Timothy and one brother Dale (Pat) Galant of Bradley, IL.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother and step-father.

Funeral services will be on Friday January 13, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, with Brother Tom DeWitt officiating.  Burial will be in Horse Prairie Cemetery in Sesser.  Visitation will be on Thursday January 12, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Edith Flowers – Zeigler

Edith Audrey Flowers, 95, passed away on Saturday January 7, 2017 at 7:35 A.M. at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin, IL.  She was born March 19, 1921 in Plumfield to Hiram and Lillian Mary (Bolen) Karnes.

Audrey was a clerk at Green’s Drug Store in Zeigler for many years and retired from LeQuatte’s Drug Store in Herrin.

She is survived by her son Tom Flowers of Zeigler, two grandchildren, Tim Flowers of Zeigler and Melissa Flowers of Zeigler, and one sister Bertha Barwick of Elkville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Pearl Leffler, and three brothers Fred Karnes, William Karnes, and Cecil Karnes.

Gilbert Funeral Home of Christopher has been entrusted with the arrangements. Funeral services will be on Tuesday January 10, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Visitation will be on Tuesday January 10, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.  Burial will be in Masonic and IOOF cemetery in Benton, IL.

Edna Rosenberger – Benton

Edna F. Rosenberger, 73, of Benton, IL, passed away at 2:15 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017, at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, after a brief illness. She was born on May 1, 1943, to Benjamin and Bertha (Hendricks) Carroll in West Frankfort, IL.  edna-rosenbergerEdna retired as a station manager in radio broadcasting. On June 19, 1965, she married Jerome D. Rosenberger.

She was a passionate dog rescuer and enjoyed traveling and reading. Edna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Edna is survived by her loving spouse of 51 years, Jerome D. Rosenberger; one daughter, Jerilynn Rosenberger and Terrence Koenan of Meriden, CT; one son, Benjamin Rosenberger of Benton, IL and two grandsons, Dean Peters and Spencer Peters and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by Father, Benjamin and Bertha Carroll and several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 15, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.at Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2017, 3:00 p.m. at the Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL.  Per Edna’s wishes cremation took place.

Mrs. Marien Bornheimer – Whittington

marien-bornheimer-media-picMrs. Marien Agnes Bornheimer, age 76, of Whittington, passed away at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO.

Mrs. Bornheimer was born January 20, 1940 in Wausau, WI, the daughter of Joseph Lewandowski and Leona (Kordus) Lewandowski. She married Robert Cyril Bornheimer on October 1, 1960, and he survives.

Marien’s working career was in Bookkeeping and Accounting. She enjoyed crafts, especially making Memorial Day flowers. She had a love and passion for pets, and rescued many. She also enjoyed cooking large meals for family and friends.

Marien was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benton, and enjoyed being involved with the church.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert C. Bornheimer of Whittington; her son Robert Bornheimer and wife Mary of Trenton, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Bornheimer was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Netta Soczka, Clara Janz, Lorraine Zdrojewski; and an infant brother.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Benton, with Father Urban Osuji officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery near Whittington. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, where a Rosary Service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m.

Jeffrey Arview – West Frankfort

Jeffery S. Arview, age 53, of West Frankfort, passed away at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Franklin Hospital in Benton.  He was born on April 18, 1963 in Highland, Illinois, the son of Sherman jeff-arview“Bud” Arview and Shirley (Dasher) Arview. He was married to Sharon Arview of West Frankfort.

Jeff was a 1981 graduate of Frankfort Community High School, and was a member of the former East Fork Baptist Church.

He worked for Arview Heating and Air Conditioning of West Frankfort.

Jeff loved music, tractors and the outdoors. His love for music was shown with him playing the bass guitar for many area country music bands, most notably The Kendell Marvel Band.

He is survived by his parents Bud and Shirley Arview of West Frankfort; his wife Sharon Arview of West Frankfort; two sons: Jeffery Arview and wife Sonja of Bells, TN, Caleb Arview of Thompsonville, IL; four grandchildren: Logan Arview, Taylor Arview, Jeffery Arview, Jr., Zain Arview; six siblings: David Arview of West Frankfort, Diana Bozovich and husband Dave of Whittington, Dorothy Yates of West Frankfort, Steve Arview and wife Helena of Thompsonville, Danny Arview of West Frankfort, Karen Jo Crespi and husband Tom of West Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Jeff’s wishes were to be cremated. A private family memorial celebration of life service will be held at a future date.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anti-Drug Fund through the Franklin County Sheriff Department, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
