Beverly Jean Basso, 95, of Sesser, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Herrin Hospital.
Beverly was born on November 21, 1930, in Valier, Illinois, to Robert Gulley and Gipsie (Bledsoe) Gulley. She was united in marriage to Donald Richard Basso on April 16, 1949. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2023.
Beverly earned her bachelor’s degree and dedicated her professional life to education as a school teacher. She will be remembered for the love and care she gave to her family and for the many lives she touched throughout her years.
Beverly is survived by her children, Rick (Sandy) Basso of Sesser and Jeanne (Chuck) Wright of Valier; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Richard Basso; her parents, Robert and Gipsie Gulley; one daughter, Karen Shurtz and five siblings.
Funeral services for Beverly Jean Basso will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday November 7, 2027 at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, Illinois, with Pastor Eli Schoenbaechler officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Eternal Friends of Christ, Residential Hospice or Sesser First Responders. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
