Robert “Robbie” Carlton-Christopher, IL

Robert “Robbie” Carlton, a beloved father, brother, son, nephew, and friend, passed away leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure.

He was born on December 16, 1969 in Fort Sill, OK to Robert Mace and Sharon Lyday. He was adopted by James Dennis Carlton.

A 1988 graduate of Christopher High School, Robbie was a dedicated athlete who ran track all four years. He also played football a couple years. From a young age, he was full of energy, determination, and a spirit that kept him constantly on the go.
Robbie found joy in the simple things that brought people together. He loved listening to music, spending time with his sons, riding four-wheelers, camping, and gathering around campfires with family and friends. He enjoyed cooking, watching movies, playing video games with his sons, and helping his son work on vehicles. Some of his happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people he loved most.
Known for his adventurous spirit, Robbie was a true daredevil who was never afraid to take risks or try something new. He was stubborn as all get out, but that same determination was part of what made him who he was. Beneath that tough exterior was a man with a huge heart who deeply loved his family and friends and would do anything for them.
Robbie never met a stranger. He genuinely loved people and had a way of making others feel welcome. His infectious energy, sense of humor, and caring nature touched countless lives throughout the years.

He is survived by his children Aiden Furlow, Micah Furlow and Elijah Furlow all of Mulkeytown; father James Dennis Carlton of Ina; step-mother Bonnie Mace of Sesser; children’s mother Leslie Furlow of Mulkeytown; siblings Randy (Ann) Carlton of Senath, MO, James “Denny” Carlton of Christopher, Bonnie Clark of Christopher, Sara Pedigo of Sesser, John (Michelle) Gunn of Benton, Karen (Bob) Sprague of Sesser, Allie Cosma of Alliance, OH, Jonathon Joshua Payne of Austin, TX and Amanda Kaye Payne of Austin, TX, niece Raemi Bryant and several other nieces and nephews and aunt, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert Mace, mother Sharon Carlton, siblings Aime Carlton, Jeffrey Mace and Diana Gunn.

Funeral Services will be on Friday June 26, 2026 at 6:30 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Brother Larry Cook officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 PM until the time of the service at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. His wishes were to be cremated after the funeral service.

Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, his memory will live on through the stories shared around campfires, the music that fills the air, the adventures taken, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.”
