Rosalie Nadler-Benton, IL

Rosalie Nadler – May 3, 1935 – February 23, 2026

The Nadler family will gather this Saturday, February 28, for a visitation to honor Arnold and Rosalie Nadler. Arnold and Rosalies ashes were combined together as they were in life into one before burial. Arnold passed April 22, 2020. Their spirits live strong in our hearts.

Rosalie loved all of us unconditionally. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart and soul. She will be sorely missed as the matriarch of our family and our source of good food, good loving, and lots of laughter. She enriched the lives of all those around her with her cheerfulness, readiness to have a good time, love and dedication. Friends and Family always felt blessed after a visit to her house.

Rosalie Whitecotton was born of modest means into a family consisting of a yours, mine, and ours combination consisting of 21 children in total. Her father was killed in an accident when she was only 3 months old leaving her mother Rosa to raise her. Rosalie was the baby of the family and had the advantage of having all the older siblings to help her on her way. She had a strong role model in her mother, Rosa Whitecotton, who cooked, cleaned, loved, scolded and did the best she could for all of her children. The family lived in the small mining town of Clifford and then Herrin, Illinois.

Rosalie attended school in Herrin and then later lived there. She met the love of her life and her soul mate, Arnold Nadler at the Blue Heaven. She was mother to four and was grandma and great grandma to many.

Together, Arnold and Rosalie built their first house in Herrin, Illinois. They were blessed with the arrival of their children Richard, Susan, and Valerie while living in Herrin. Rosalie and Arnold then moved to Sesser. Sesser was a great place for the new family and many, many friends were established. Long summer afternoons were spent with fellow mothers and friends on porches while all of the children were playing games in vacant lots. Their family continued to grow and a second home was built in Sesser and their fourth child, Joel, was born. The family moved to Benton and they designed and built more homes in Benton. The children moved on to homes of their own; however Benton, a great community with many great friends, remained “home” for all the family.

Rosalie was the consummate mother and wife. There was always a hearty breakfast on the table as the rest of the family began their day and delicious supper meals over which all could share the events of the day. Christmas time was always a wonderful event for the family with lots of homemade cookies and treats, a house “decked to the halls,” and an overflowing Christmas tree.

Many evenings could be found with Rosalie reading to her children. A child not feeling well always had the special attention and tenderness they needed to get well soon.

Rosalie enjoyed cooking delicious meals, working crossword puzzles, keeping a beautiful and clean home, doing interior design on all of their various homes and seeing that all of her children were provided for and loved, as well as keeping Arnold happy and content. Arnold, her husband, was the love of her life and together they were a great example of what a marriage/partnership should be.

Susan married Bob Blaylock and currently lives in Wentzville, Missouri and has 2 children, Doug and Richard. Valerie married Scott Newberry and lives in Marion, Illinois and also has 2 children, Angie and Greg. Joel married Lisa Mix and has one son, Raymond. Joel is now married to Meghan Lowery and currently lives in Bloomfield, Indiana. There are five grandchildren, Doug and wife Heidi Blaylock of O’Fallon, Illinois; Angie and husband Tim Belford of Goreville, Illinois; Richard Blaylock of Wilmington, North Carolina; Greg and wife Jennifer Newberry of Newmarket, Ontario, Canada; and Raymond Nadler of Bloomfield, Indiana. There are seven great grandchildren; Jared and Travis Blaylock, Sherri and husband Trenton Pulley, Aidan Belford, and Gregory, Savannah, and Jonathan Newberry. There are two great, great grandchildren; Natalie and Lincoln Pulley. Rosalie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Richard Dale Nadler. Brothers and Sisters whom she was close to included Hollis, Herbert, Clarence, Jacob, Robert, Dorothy, Parlaee, Ella, Lela, and Howard. Phyllis McSpadden who lives in Naperville, Illinois is her only surviving sibling.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 South Main Street, Benton, IL.

For a celebration of Arnold and Rosalie’s life you are invited to attend Pate Funeral Home on February 28, 2026, from 9 :00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Rosalie and Arnold will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion at a later date.
