Valerie Jean Mabry (Kane), age 69, of Benton, Illinois, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on November 24, 1956, to Gene and Josephine (Pippi) Kane in Marion, IL. On July 23, 1977, Valerie married Calvin “Larry” Mabry and he survives.
Valerie was the sweetest soul and was known for always having a smile on her face. Her kindness, warmth and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her. She dedicated over 30 years of service as a Pharmacy Technician at Kimmel Chaplain Pharmacy, where she was loved by her coworkers and customers alike.
After her retirement, Valerie found joy in crafting and caring for her plants — simple pleasures that reflected her patient and nurturing nature. Above all else, she treasured her time with her family and took great pride in being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Valerie is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Calvin Mabry, her daughter, Brea Leigh Thomas and son-in-law, Cliff Thomas; her cherished grandchildren, Alivia and Avery Thomas; her brother-in-law and his wife, Gary and Pam Mabry; her nephew, Brian Mabry and his wife, Steph and their daughter, Desi; her nieces, Sarah Kane and Louren Kane; her cousins, Vince Kelly, Todd and Kristi Kelly, Samuel Barnwell, Laura Sims, Sherry Kelley, Jim and Diana Kinnamon, Sal Reggio and Angela Dougherty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Josephine Kane and her brother, Mitch Kane.
Services have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home and Crematory, 301 South Main Street, Benton, IL.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m, at the Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL, with the Reverend Mark Minor, officiating.
Following the Funeral service, burial will take place in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL.
Valerie will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her loving heart, gentle soul and joy she brought into the lives of others.
Memorials may be to the Benton Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry and will be accepted at the funeral home.
