Willis “Bill” Roberson – Sesser

american flagWillis “Bill” Roberson, 85, of Sesser, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 6, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Jefferson County, IL on September 19, 1931, the son of Everett & Eva Mae (Taylor) Roberson.

He married Virginia (Gulliksen) on June 18, 1955, in Chicago, IL.

Mr. Roberson attended the First Christian Church in Benton.  He was an Army Veteran, serving in Germany from 1952 to 1954.  He worked in Chicago Heights for 22 years, at Flintkote as an industrial electrician.  He then worked as a Coal Miner at Inland Steel-Consol for 16 years, retiring in 1994.  Mr. Roberson was a member of the American Legion Post in Benton.

Mr. Roberson is survived by his wife Virginia Roberson of Sesser, three sons, David Roberson and wife Susan of Seguin, TX, Daniel Roberson and wife Jody of Sesser, Darryll Roberson of Christopher and a daughter in law Sue Roberson of West City.

He is also survived by eleven grandchildren;  Kenneth Roberson, Jeremy Roberson, Jamiey Rizor, Jessyca Rye, Drew Roberson, Christina Lewis Brisson, Christopher Roberson, Samantha Roberson, Bobby Fasig, Brandon Fasig and Clayton Webb, with twenty great grandchildren; Two sisters;  Estelleta Phelps of Orland Park, IL and Vanitta Hammonds of Christopher; one brother; Charles Roberson & wife Ethel Lynn of Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by a son, Dwyght Lee Roberson, brother-Jewel R. Roberson  and his wife Hazel, brothers-in-law Lloyd Phelps and Francis Hammonds.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M, Tuesday, April 11th at the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 12th at the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with Pastor Kurt Sanders officiating.

Burial with Military Rites by the Benton American Legion & VFW Posts and the National Guard Honor Squad will be in the Horse Prairie Cemetery in Sesser.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Roberson’s Memory to the First Christian Church Fellowship Center.
