Morthland drops doubleheader to begin season

Errors and high pitch counts led to the Morthland College baseball team losing two games in their season opener against Shawnee Community College.

Alex Walker pitched five innings in the first game and picked up a pair of earned runs and one unearned run, along with five walks. Shawnee’s Austin Johnson pitched a shutout against Morthland.

Shawnee defeated Morthland, 8-0 in the first game, but the contest was much closer in the second game, with Shawnee winning, 9-7.

The Morthland College Patriots will play another double-header at 1 p.m. Thursday at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis.
