BENTON — Michael E. Dorris, 65, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon.
Mike was born on Aug. 6, 1948, in Buffalo, New York, the son of Walter Eugene and Cloe (Alexander) Dorris.
He married Pam (McMahon) on July 4, 1993, and she survives.
Mike was a member of First Baptist Church of Benton, a life member of DAV and Benton VFW and a member of Orient American Legion.
Mike was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired coal miner, retiring from Old Ben 24. Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved drag cars.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Dorris of Benton along with children, Sam Dorris, Chelsey Dorris, Brittany Dorris, Sasha Dorris, Stormi Dorris, Remington “Bubba” Dorris all of Benton, David Dorris and wife, Monica of Johnston City and Elizabeth Wideman of Marion; grandchildren, Jared Dorris, Hannah Wideman, Zach Wideman, Chelsea Knight, Sam Knight and Derek Knight; and a great-grandson, Gavin Knight.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jerry Dorris.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4 in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Mark Minor officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3 at the funeral home.
